Magician with the big bag!

Thursday's event on Magician saw the biggest non-classic bag we have seen yet.  15.52!!!!  Continuing their run for the division champion title were Ron Fabisak and Rob Freshour in 1st with 5 weighing an incredible 15.52 pounds and also big fish with a 3.96, 2nd was Trevor Paulus and Brad Sterling with 4 weighing 7.53, and 3rd went to Larry Hursh and Adam Buss with 4 weighing 7.22.  Next Thursday's event will be on Diamond.

Tuesday's event on Corey was similar to past years as it was dominated by a field of limits showing why the MDNRE has reduced the largemouth size limit to 10".  But also similar was the presence of some of the biggest fish of the year.  While the biggest fish of the year still was a 5.59 largemouth from Diamond, Corey put out a 4.76, 5.14, and a 5.23.  1st was Kevin Fletcher/Michael Fletcher with 5 weighing 13.79, 2nd was Chris (Dell) Maynard/Pablo (Bert) Gonzalez with 5 weighing 12.50 and also the big fish of the event with the 5.23.  Third was Clark/Thomas with 5 weighing 6.94.  Team Bert and Dell are going for their first points championship while Fletcher/Fletcher seek to make a run at catching them at the end as they did last year.  Two to go.  Next event on Eagle/Juno.

Classic update!!!  The 2010 MWTS Bennington Marine Classic will be held at Lake St. Clair on Aug. 28 & 29.  We will be going out of a ramp that is near the middle of Lake St. Clair.  This will allow teams to go any direction they want on the lake.  Paul will be gathering more info on hotels and such in the next couple of weeks.  Another change for this year is how many teams will make the classic.  We will be advancing the top 50% as usual, but the change will come as the wildcard spots will be expanded to include any team that has attended 7 out of the 10 events.

Michigan DNR changes ramp permits
The Michigan DNR has changed how it is doing ramp permits for this year.  You now will not need permits for events with 49 or less boats.  You will still need to contact the DNR with your schedule as they will be keeping a calendar to avoid ramp conflicts.

How can we possibly follow up last fall's classic of a record two day total of over 40 pounds?  I was back on the water there just a couple weeks later and the fishing was not as good as when we were there.  It appears that we hit the key weekend.  Hope we can repeat a good catch this fall again.

2009 Deka Classic Record
40 pounds!!!!!
After 2 wonderful days of fishing, Hurtle and Smith stand atop the field with a record catch of 40.04 pounds.  What is more amazing is that they did not have any fish over 5 pounds and on day 2 had a 14 1/2 incher in the sack.  All footballs I guess.  2nd goes to Rusty Robinson and Frankie Adams with 32.84 and 3rd was Mickey and I with 32.08.  Big bass Day 1 was a 4.97 caught by Fletchers and Day 2 was Nelson and Chodzinski with a 5.01 pound smallie.  While Torch gave up the winning sack, Elk and Skegemog gave up the numbers accounting for most of the top 10.  Full results on the Tuesday standings tab.

We would like to extend our sincere thank you to the Torch River Resort and the Torch River Marine for the wonderful hospitality they have shown us for two years now.  Any chance we get, please let them know we appreciate them and try to get your clubs to go and stay there when possible.  Also, congratulations to Kyle Anderson of Rapid City, MI who caught the new state record Musky Sept. 29th.  While we were busy catching 3 and 4 pound smallmouth, he managed to catch a 50 pound musky on Torch Lake.

When fishing at the Dock on Eagle lake, you need to get a free parking pass to park in the Dock lot.  Passes can be obtained by calling Paul Delano's office at 269-699-9505.  Passes are not required on our tournament nights.
