CLASSIC GOING TO SKEGEMOG FOR 2008, BURT/MULLET FOR 2009
After much deliberation and multitudes of phone calls to the DNR and Chamber of Commerces, we have decided to go to Skegemog which is just west of Kalkaska and is part of the Elk, Torch, Clam, and Bellaire chain of lakes. Skegemog lies inbetween Elk and Torch which are two of the biggest lakes in Michigan. Even little Skegemog is 2000+ acres! Many of us have been to this body of water before and I personally am looking forward to going there again as I have not been there for a while. I am researching hotels in Kalkaska which is right on US-131. From my house in Edwardsburg, it takes me about 3:45 to get to downtown Kalkaska and its highway most of the way. There are several restaraunts, gas stations, tackle shop and marina in close proximity. There is also a casino just west of the lake on M-72 towards Traverse City. We will be having an off limits prior to the event starting September 2nd until the official practice days of September 18th and 19th. Official practice days will be held this year to avoid multiple trips and cut cost of fuel. More info to come. The Burt/Mullet lakes will be the site of the 2009 Classic launching from a new municipal launch that will be located in the Indian River that will be completed next year.
2008 Schedule and Classic Dates Set!!!!!!
With the change in the Michigan DNR permitting process, we were able to apply for our permits on 11/1. After reviewing the schedules of BBT, BFL, and Mickey's BASS, it looks like the best weekend for our 2008 Classic will be September 20 & 21st. Paul, Jeff, Mickey and I are discussing several lake options for the Classic and will come up with a decision soon. As always, comments either emailed or on the forum will be appreciated.
2008 Season to add 2nd chance event. This coming season we will be adding a 2nd chance wildcard event that will be on August 23 for all the teams that did not make the classic. It will be an 8 hour event with the normal $40 entry. Teams must have fished 10 of the 12 events in a single division to be eligible. No Subs, the top 3 teams will advance to the Classic. Lake to be announced. More info later on this.
2007 Classic Winners Trevor and Brad
1st went to Trevor Paulus and Brad Sterling with 10 fish weighing 26.22 pounds, 2nd was Dave Hoffman and Steve Williams with 9 fish weighing 23.03 pounds, 3rd was Chris Maynard and Rick Koerting with 9 fish weighing 22.40 pounds, 4th went to Kevin and Michael Fletcher with 8 fish weighing 19.66 pounds, and 5th went to Al Gearhart and Mike Jones with 8 fish weighing 17.72 pounds. Big bass day 1 was Al Gearhart and Mike Jones with a 3.66 and day 2 was Paul Grove and Jeff Stankovich with a 3.51. For complete Classic results, click on the Tuesday YTD Standings tab above.
